Size and Design
of the New Building

The new building plan is based on several factors:

First, the Directors of the ministry considered their requirements for serving the needs of their clients, including food storage and distribution.  This was not only based on current client volume but also projecting the higher volume that we anticipate serving in the future as the community grows.

While considering current requirements, they also thought through additional unmet needs that they could potentially deliver in a new building, including, but not limited to:

  • Refrigeration for healthier, perishable items

  • Clothing closet with donated clothes

  • Emotional support and engagement with private meeting rooms

Lastly, the final exterior was designed to meet requirements set forth by the city, as the building falls within the Gateway Overlay district.  Unfortunately, these requirements limit the simplicity of what The Way Station Food Pantry hoped to build and will result in greater build costs; however, we know ultimately it will allow us to expand our reach and help more families than ever before.

Estimated Costs

The estimated costs of the new building are between $250,000 and $300,000, which includes the interior furnishings and equipment.  While the footprint of the new proposed building is much larger, the estimated operating costs (utilities, etc) are expected to stay roughly the same based on the prior, older building’s inefficiency and upkeep expenditures.

The new building costs will be self-funded by the ministry through an organized fundraising campaign.  The ministry will rely on donations from corporate, nonprofit (including churches) and individual donors, while also seeking funds from available grants.  All donations will be tax deductible as contributions to Church of the Hill, a 501c3 organization.
